What do you need to know if you choose photography as a major?

I want to choose photography as a major, but i dont know if its the right decision for me. I love taking pictures of just about everything but i dont know how much experience you need to become a photographer. I havent taken any classes, basically all i have is a digital camera that i enjoy using everyday. Please help!

I want to take up photography (as a hobby), where do I start?

I just got a digital camera as a graduation gift. Also, my dad gave me his 35mm film camera. I really want to get into photography because I love the art. I also want to learn how to use both digital and film. Were do I start? (tips, “how to” books, etc)
