Sony announces the launch of the a55 and a33, a range of revolutionary new digital SLR high speed cameras. Featuring translucent mirror technology which allows the cameras to continuously shoot and focus whilst taking stills or recording full HD video. Both cameras shoot continuously at up to 10 frames per second on the a55 and up to 7 on the a33 – making the a55 the fastest burst continuous AF shooting mode the world has ever seen for any interchangeable lens camera with an APS-C size sensor. Both a55 and a33 feature 3D Sweep Panorama, anti-shake and Memory Stick Duo as well as SD card slots.

This is a very quickly jammed together / shot test video from the Canon Ixus 200 IS. The only issues I have are the way the compact camera handles light during videos – sometimes if a bright light source comes into frame, the camera compensates and the image darkens right down – this is emphasised by the speed at which the camera responds in this situation – slowly. That said, for a compact camera, the 720p HD video is very good.
